BASICS OF RECORDING SOUND
This course is designed to provide all students wishing to follow one of the sound tracks a comprehensive overview of recording. Equipment will be widely explored from recorders to mixers to microphones. Digital and analog differences will be discussed. Also explored will be such topics as the physics of sound, equalizing sound, effects, and multi-track recording.
 
 
PRODUCTION SOUND MIXER
This course is designed to provide a thorough understanding of the recording skills and systems required for location sound for film and video productions. Mono and stereo recording, boom techniques, advanced microphone use, synchronization, audio take logging and analogue/digital recording are emphasized. Course will conclude with a 6 week hands-on video and/or film project.

EDITING WITH PRO TOOLS
This course provides a broad introduction to sound editorial principles as applied to films, animation, games and television. The phenomenology of sound is examined with an introduction to acoustics. Creative use of sound is explored through a use of an extensive sound library. Preliminary use of software to manipulate dialogue quality and tone will also be explored using Pro Tools workstations. The second week of this intensive workshop provides an advanced application of sound editorial principles as applied to film and television. Hands-on exercises are performed to advance editorial skill sets, including the use of a sound library and microphone techniques to record live audio. Use of special software to manipulate dialogue characteristics will also be utilized. Macintosh experience with OSX is required. 
 
 
SOUND DESIGN
This course examines audio production techniques, technologies, and aesthetics related to the development of a compelling soundtrack. Students receive training in all phases of digital sound recording, editing, foley and mixing. Students work with industry standard location and field recording equipment. In addition, they learn advanced editing and mixing techniques associated with digital audio workstations. Course will conclude with a 6 week hands-on video and/or film project.
