PICTURE EDITORIAL CAREER TRACK Total Hours to complete track: 512 Total cost for all track courses: $9000 FILM EDITOR This course focuses on the craft of film editing. Students learn this dynamic and creative role by studying feature films. He or she must work with the layers of images, story, dialogue, music, pacing, as well as the actors' performances to effectively "redirect" and even rewrite the film to craft a cohesive whole. Film editing techniques will be studied such as creating sensually provocative montages; experimental cinema; increasing tension and drama in an actor's performance; guide the telling and pace of a story; create an illusion of danger where there is none; and even create a vital subconscious emotional connection to the viewer. Students also learn the technical aspects of negative cutting, opticals and vfx. This course is the prerequisite for Avid and Final Cut Pro courses. Course objective: Students will comprehend the role of the Film Editor and be prepared for the Final Cut or Avid course effectively. FINAL CUT EDITING This comprehensive and immersive course highlights all of the key features of Apple Final Cut Pro. Topics include project setup, customizing preferences and settings, capturing video and audio, editing and trimming techniques, ripple, roll, slip and slide tools, audio editing and audio creation using Soundtrack, title creation using LiveType and final output. Students will also cover time re-map, motion titles, changing clip speed, finishing and output. This course is designed for those who want to familiarize themselves with the entire feature set of Apple Final Cut Pro, Soundtrack, and LiveType. This course assumes that you are familiar with Macintosh OS X computer system software. Course objective: Students learn to use this powerful computer-based editor and its many features designed to create finished productions. AVID EDITING This course studies the Avid “Media” and “Film Composer” applications. Students learn from beginning to advanced techniques in Avid editorial. Course includes instructor-led demonstration and hands-on practice. Topics include editing features such as “Sync Point Editing”, “Replace Edit”, advanced trimming, editing, viewing options, sync audio methods, keyboard shortcuts, user settings and digitizing, outputs, titles, and edit lists. You need not have prior experience with Avid editing systems but must be familiar with Macintosh OS X computer system software. Course objective: Students learn to work effectively and efficiently with this state-of-the-art computer-based edit system. |
