Fall Classes Now Forming The Lifton Institute for Media Skills started with a simple idea: create meaningful jobs in the film and television trades. We accomplish this by providing skilled and unskilled out-of-work labor and students the guidance o experienced instructors. We then provide extensive hands-on experience using the same tools, stages and timeframes as the profession they are studying. It is an educational philosophy that reaches across all of our programs.
YOUR EXPERIENCE AT THE LIFTON INSTITUTE FOR MEDIA SKILLS (LIMS) As a student at LIMS, know that your advancement is of primary importance. LIMS has developed a truly unique educational approach. There are many institutions that “teach film.” However, there is no other school that offers an in-depth education in those vital skill areas known in the industry as “below-the-line.”We have chosen to focus on helping students develop into these skilled technicians...the workforce of every film and television production. To achieve this, within the essential departments of a production, we have developed multiple career 'tracks.' These tracks represent a comprehensive education in all of the steps involved in getting to the top of that particular career position. This could be considered the equivalent of declaring a 'major' at a university. Students then begin the intensive training within their chosen track which, besides classroom instruction, includes an intensive three weeks of hands-on constant production activity. This will be hard work where the hours invested in learning and practicing skills in the classroom will be put to the test. The finished projects will provide graduates with their first vital production credits. Those students who complete all aspects of their track will receive certification and also become candidates for the advanced hands-on production practicum. Final graduates from the advanced program will become candidates to join the roster of potential crew for all productions at Unity Studios. LIMS operates on a trimester system. We offer the full curriculum three times a year during an approximate 12-week period. |
